Guest Jim B Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 After a few weeks of running fine my fully patched win2k8 box will not create a desktop. If I send it a ctrl-alt-del I can get the security options and start task manager to run apps, a command line etc. The only errors in the event log are: Log Name: Application Source: Desktop Window Manager Date: 6/2/2008 4:37:34 PM Event ID: 9003 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: name deleted Description: The Desktop Window Manager was unable to start because a composited theme is not in use Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Desktop Window Manager" /> <EventID Qualifiers="16384">9003</EventID> <Level>4</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2008-06-02T20:37:34.000Z" /> <EventRecordID>1512</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>name deleted</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> </EventData> </Event> Log Name: Application Source: Desktop Window Manager Date: 6/2/2008 4:37:21 PM Event ID: 9009 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: name deleted Description: The Desktop Window Manager has exited with code (0x40010004) Event Xml: <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="Desktop Window Manager" /> <EventID Qualifiers="16384">9009</EventID> <Level>4</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2008-06-02T20:37:21.000Z" /> <EventRecordID>1507</EventRecordID> <Channel>Application</Channel> <Computer>name deleted</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data>0x40010004</Data> </EventData> </Event> and occasionally: Log Name: Application Source: Microsoft-Windows-Winsrv Date: 6/2/2008 4:37:20 PM Event ID: 10002 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: User: myusername Computer: name deleted Description: The following application was terminated because it was hung: explorer.exe. I've restarted all the terminal services services, themes, user profile service, the desktop window session manager. Any thoughts?
