Hi all,

I've bought a lead to connect my netbook to my tv to use it as a monitor. It has the 15 pin VGA connector on one end and 3 RCA connectors on the other - Red, Green and Blue. I plugged it into the appropriate terminals on the tv but can't view whatevers on the netbook screen. I've tried changing display settings within the computer and tried various combinations with the RCAs.

This is the lead I bought: [urlhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280634772964&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT][/url]

Are these coloured ends for audio only? Do I need a yellow RCA for video?

Many thanks, Jon-Paul.

Hi John, their seems to be two standards for the colours, the set you have are green for the video, red for left channel audio, blue for right channel audio.

The other standard comprises red, white, and yellow. in those red is right channel, white is left channel audio, and yellow is video.

However, your netbook may not have all that is needed for the correct conversion, the VGA out may only be able to work into another monitor. In which case you will need a converter box. Unfortunately they can be a tad expensive for what they do. Just short of £50 for this=

Yellow - Picture

Red - Audio

White - Audio

Green Red and Blue is for Picture only, you still need the RED and WHITE for Audio

You need to keep in mind that your VGA output is only for analogue video. You will need the standard yellow for it to have any chance of working. Even then you will need to connect a separate cable from your audio output jack to the TV. If your PC has an SVideo jack (round) or an HDMI output and your TV has corresponding inputs then you can and should use one of them.
