Have you installed it and are there any known unknowns you can tell us about?

 

Is this number 4.5 your unknown in this respect. How did you make it from 3.1?

So far so good. Did some uninstalls of current apps, installs,

re-installs and it works fine. I don't know yet how Microsoft went

from 3.1 to 4.5.

Will the new installer be offered via Windows Automatic Updates or is it

optional?

If/when you need the new installer, it will tell you and force you to

download it.

It is optional but I would recommend updating to it as I now

understand that one of the neat feature available is snapshot

installing. Programmers and developers may take advantage of this

feature so it doesn't hurt to be future-proofed.

Have searched "Snapshot Installation" but cannot get a clear description

of it.

 

Could you expand/explain the advantages of it please?

So, I assume that as the name suggests "snapshot" uses imaging in some

way.
