Hello all, do you know the fix for the problems XP SP 3 causes. The device

manager screen is blank, no network connection, and my computer takes a

while to load. It may be other problems but this is a start.

Sure. Either uninstall it (and perhaps use System Restore to restore

back to the prior system checkpoint),

OR

restore your backup image from the backup drive you made prior to installing

SP3.

XP SP3 doesn't cause problems. The problems are caused by other things.

Apparently it DOES for several people, if you've been reading all the

threads and reviews.

Not exactly. If you had a system WITHOUT all the trash, such as Norton,

Symantec, Zone Alarm, etc. etc. etc. You wouldn't have problems as indicated

in these threads and reviews.

But did EVERYONE have that trash on their system? I kinda doubt it.

Please define "trash". Your examples consisted of the most

widely available security software, plus the software (Zone

Alarm) I use. Is there an unexpressed preference for

somebody else's security stuff here? We all need _some_

security.

Anthony, I'll try a definition and offer a bit of advice. Trash includes:

Any Internet Security Suite.

Most Symantec products

Most McAfee products

Most priced products.

1. I suggest that you download and save to your hard drive the AVG

Anti-virus/Anti-Spyware Version 8 Free (assuming you are an individual, not

on a corporate network). http://tinyurl.com/6g6497

2. Uninstall what ever internet "security" programs that you have.

3. Install the AVG product.

4. If you don't have a router/firewall between your modem and the computer -

get one.

RE: Service Pack 3 problems

Currently I am over writing my windows files *hugs XP disc*...I downloaded

and installed SP3 fo windows. I didn't think to look up if there were people

whom had problems with it, I have never really had any trouble with windows

updates before. How stupid am I? I really should have looked up if there were

problems with SP3...

I attepmted to boot in safe mode and the computer continued to keep on not

booting properly for me. Thus why I am over writing windows at the moment. It

really is a pain in the ass because of the work I can't do until I get

windows working again.

Also my computer does have Norton's...Most peoples computers are filled with

"trash"...A lot of people have that stuff on their computer...to "protect"

against nasties...since there is so much of that crap out there.

But yes SP3 did not agree with my computer...

Y_Y poo...now i have to fix the driver for my moniter *sobs*...its huge and

ugly!
