I strongly suspect that you are the stupid one:

 

In Vista, it's listed in Services and can be disabled.

 

I'd be surprised if XP didn't handle it the same way.

OK I'll bite. How can it be disabled permanently? You can end the process,

and that is all. Who wants to do that every time they run their computer?

Start Menu > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services

 

Here, you will see all running services listed- including Acronis Try and

Decide.

 

Right click it, and click Properties.

 

Under the "Startup Type:" drop-down, select Disabled.

 

Click "Apply" at the bottom right.

 

Click "Stop" under "Service status".

 

You should be good to go.....

 

It should be stopped and should not restart with Windows.

I just checked my XP notebook... it's there (same as in Vista) just

like I thought it would be. And what I said can be done CAN be done.

I will admit that Acronis Tech support said this would not work...but I

tried it now and it does.

Never trust a company whose imaging software can't image removable media.
