hi i got my PC from Ebay and since the start it crashed but just lately it crashes more often i have downloaded loads of registry cleaners/tweakers and it still crashed then yesterday i decided to open the case and i cleaned off the fans and made sure every wire was pushed in. it does not crash as much now but when i went to take the cooler on the processor oss it was loose and when i put it back i made sure it was not loose i am wondering if the reason why it kept on crashing was bacuz the processor was getting to hot and shutting down to protect it - i dont get any warning messages or anything it just crashes like sumone turning the power off at the wall. i press the power button and it would start up again and fingers crosted for when the next shutdown was going to happen, i have attached 2 files from two different information sources wich should help you help me :o also when i checked my PC health it said my processor was at 85dc is that normal ?? do you think i need a new processor or new fans ?? or more fans please help

I havent looked at the files, but 85 is hot and if the cooler was loose then yes that will be the problem.

All you need to do is remove the CPU cooler and take off the thermal paste, from the top of the CPU and also the cooler, then re apply new thermal paste and attach the cooler so that it is fixed as it should be (not loose)

If you do resolve your problem the tools you used may have caused other problems. I hope not.

this might be it when i checked there is no traces of thermal paste on my cooler i use kaspersky internet and when i do a full scan thats what it mainly crashes but it also decides to go on its own when i play world of warcraft with ventrilo runing i dunno if its bcuz the processor has to do more work and thats what is crashing it.

i have just started the computer up and went into the BIOS settings >PC health status and the CPU is on 86dc straight away when ive only just turned it on

It will have paste or a thermal pad, if its doesnt have any then yes it will be overheating.

Games and AV scans will heat the CPU fairly quick.

Sort the thermal issue first and if you dont know how let us know

it has like a coper circle thingy on the bottom on the cooler and there is no sign of the thermal paste - i checked with a computer shop near me and he says i need at least half a pea size of paste then spread it evenly but he also said that my cooler might not be working properly

that is the picture of my current CPU cooler its a INTEL D34223-001 SOCKET 775 CPU COOLER, can you recomend a good CPU cooler that will keep it cool while i play games and run scans with no problem i seen the same CPU cooler i have on E-bay for 1pounds 99 (cant get the pound sign up ) i feel ashamed lol i would be happy to spend around 15 pounds on a CPU cooler if that is what needed also i found some thermal paste on E-bay for 99p with 2 cleaning wipes or is that to cheep and nasty im unsure of how much good thermal paste costs. By the way many thanks for your help i have been pulling my hair out for days over this i was thinking about striping it down and try to make a new comp out of it i was runing Vista first of all but i thought it was that so now i run on windows XP Pro

Hi, the fan and the heat sink fins look OK to me, does the fan spin at a good fast speed when connected? If so then all you need now is the paste as recommended, fit it all back together and make sure it is held tightly onto the processor so it can absorb the heat.

You could go for a better fan perhaps, and if the original fan runs slow or is stiff to turn, then a new one would be needed anyway, Dalo is best qualified for recommending the best fan to get if it should be necessary.

Nev.

Thermal paste should cost you £2 to £3 from a local shop. Refit the standard fan with thermal paste before you think about spending on a new fan.
