Hi,

Recently, while playing games, my laptop has been grossly overheating and lagging like mad after a while of playing. I did have Speedfan running for a couple days and with it active (with auto fan speed) it wasn't so bad, but now whenever i open it (even after reinstall) it crashed my system.

I have manually increased my graphics card fan speed to 100%, and thats helped partly cool it, but i'm thinking it may be something wrong with my CPU fan aswell, i've posted this in graphics as that is registering as hotter using HWMonitor.

Here are my results from 'standing still':

And these ar results from running Dawn Of War II Retribution(Lowest settings) after a couple of games ...

And my full system specs:

Laptop: Dell studio 1558

Operating System: Windows 7 home premium 64bit

Processor: Intel Core I5(4 CPU's) m430 2.27ghz: Registers 4.54ghz

BIOS: ver1.00 A11 PARTTBLr

Ram: 4.00gb

GFX Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 545v 2.2gb Video Ram

Sound Card: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

Direct X: 11

All of my drivers are up to date as well, as you can see i should be able to run the game on high settings with no issues. Is this a case of the fans not working correctly or could it be something else i need to do?

Thanks for your time.

I hope you come back after all this time, however it all points to dust build up inside and clogging the fans, therefore not enough cool air circulating.

It really should be opened up and cleaned properly to be sure, but being a laptop and the difficulty of getting into them, unless you are fairly good at dismantling equipment and then putting it back together, I would be recommending taking it to a professional for attention. A decent guy shouldn't charge too much for cleaning.
