Hard Drive Spins Uncontrollably

I don't know what triggers it, but the above happens and sometimes if I wait

it stops, and sometimes I have to reboot while it's spinning.

The only thing I did yesterday was uninstall TIS 2008, and re-install

because my firewall failed to start.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: Hard Drive Spins Uncontrollably

Hard drives spin when power is applied and then they spin at rated RPM,

NOT uncontrollably! You perhaps are talking about maybe the DVD or CD?

And what may be this TIS 2008 you installed? Perhaps the cause is that

software? What is the software supposed to do?

Re: Hard Drive Spins Uncontrollably

there's nothing scanning. the LED lights up and never stops and the CPU

usage is very high.

How do you know nothing is scanning? The LED lights up due to drive

read/write accesses( presuming that is the LED you are referring to) And

what process in Task manager is responsible for the "high CPU usage"?
