WinXP boot to blinking cursor

Hello,

I have a conundrum. I installed WinXP home on a 160GB drive on a Dell

Optiplex PC. After setting up all of the programs and setitngs, I

moved it to a Compaq Presario PC. It is the only drive on the primary

controller. When the system gets past the POST it gets stuck at a

blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. I made sure that there

are no other CDROMs or other boot devices.

I then tried to go into recovery console, ran chkdsk /r and also

fixboot and fixmbr, but nothing. The jumper on the drive I've tried as

slave, cable select and master. Still I get the blinking cursor issue.

Is there anything else that can be done to fix this....or do I resort

next to a repair install?

Thanks

Mike

There is a 4th option, master / slave / cable select / and master with

slave.

A drive can be either master single, or master with slave. On some

devices its different. So the question is, is there any other device

on the same cable?

There is only the hard drive on the 80 pin HD (high density) IDE cable
