programs close slowly

I have XP SP3 (3 GB RAM) and suddenly most of my programs are closing

slowly (Outlook 2007, IE 7, Word, etc). Everything seems to run fine

but it takes several seconds for these programs to close. Is there a

fix for this? I have already run a virus scan, defraged, check disc

and spyware programs. Thanks
