If you're going to use an OEM recovery CD on the Dell it will have to be the Dell CD that came with it. Otherwise you need a full retail version of XP. After that you'll need to find the drivers.

I'm unclear as to what disks you are trying to install from. Can you be more specific please? Retail-OEM from what-copies etc.

Just want to add some more info to this one

Any copied CD shouldn't be used, that is Microsoft's rules I'm afraid. The XP Home won't work anyway with your product key so forget that.

Two different CD sources with the exact same error possibly point to another fault. Maybe the writer that produced them, if the same, maybe a memory issue - use Memtest to run a full memory test, or even maybe a drive fault. Install problems need tracking down logically, so check your memory and hard drive first.

Also, the CD source, you need an original XP Pro OEM, or Retail install as Randy says, or even an original OEM XP Home install with key.

You never said if they were OEM recovery CD's or what but here is what I think might be the problem.

The CD's are probably OEM disks from another computer and are specific to that machines hardware. This error suggests that and you either need to obtain the proper OEM disks for that computer or a full retail version of XP. It matters not if you have a license.

Also if the computer has the license code and it's a Dell it's probably for the original Vista installation and nothing else. If the CD's have the code then and are not full retail disks then once again they are probably not the right ones for that computer.

In summary wrong disks for that computer.
