System Sounds Don't Play

Today I noticed my system sounds no longer play. However I can go into the

Windows\Media folder and play any of the system sounds directly in Media

Player. I can also play mp3's with no problem and my tv tuner card has

sound playback. I've tried manually setting up a couple sounds with their

events and that does not work. I have tried the default scheme, Ultimate

Extra Glass scheme, Ultimate Extras Pearl scheme and none of them work.

No conflicts in device manager.

Computer is a Dell XPS 410, sound card is "High Def Audio Device".

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Tom

How did you try manually setting them?

No sound when clicking preview/test. The sounds play when browsing to the

media folder and playing in Media Player.

Re: System Sounds Don't Play

If no sounds in preview, have you tried system restore?

Re: System Sounds Don't Play

no, haven't tried restore. Won't I lose some installed apps? If so then

it's not worth it to me. Thanks.

Re: System Sounds Don't Play

It depends on when the installed apps were installed. If they have been on

your system for a few months and you

restore to a date a week ago, you lose nothing. Suggest you read about

system restore.
