Guest Hii Sing Chung Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 I setup a Windows 2008 Enterprise server on DL360 G5 in February. I have experienced 5 times when I login it just stay at the "welcome" logo, with a continuosly circling circle on its left, and it remains like this for ever. Every time when I met with this problem, I have to force shutdown the server. Is there any idea how I can go about to resolve this problem?
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Re: Login to Windows 2008 stalls at "Welcome" Hello Hii, Check the event log for errors and post them here. Guest Hii Sing Chung Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Re: Login to Windows 2008 stalls at "Welcome" I tried Computer Management to remotely manage the server from my Vista notebook, so that I can read the event log, but unluckily, it behaved the same way - round circle, continuous circling (like the hourglass effects of earlier operating system), it was like that forever. Guest Hii Sing Chung Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Re: Login to Windows 2008 stalls at "Welcome" I managed to logon after forced power off and restarted. System event has one consistent event about WIM, eventid 7023 logged every minute: "The WMI Performance Adapter service terminated with the following error: Unspecified error". In the application event, these 2 events have been constantly logged every few seconds: eventid 3002 - "The performance counter explain text string value in the registry is not formatted correctly. The malformed string is . The first DWORD in the Data section contains the index value to the malformed string while the second and third DWORDs in the Data section contain the last valid index values." and eventid 10 - "Event filter with query "select * from __instancemodificationevent within 30 where targetinstance isa 'Win32_PerfFormattedData_PerfDisk_LogicalDisk' and targetinstance.PercentFreeSpace < 1 and targetinstance.Name != '_Total'" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041002. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected." Guest Shane Devine Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Fix? Fix? Did you ever find a fix for this problem? I'm seeing the same problem on the same server but with Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition. - Shane
