Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, I just thought I would ask here before I head down to the repair shop. I would really appreciate any thoughts.

I dropped my laptop (Toshiba Satellite) this morning whilst it was still on. The screen went black, but I turned it off and on again and it loaded back up fine. Desktop, icons everything. However, whilst some items are still clickable and will load (spotify, although it keeps stopping) others will not respond at all, such as google chrome and windows options.

I have restarted it in safe mode and backed up. i can get to my documents in safe mode but not normal. And chrome still won't open.

Do you think is a matter of internal problems that will need engineering or something that can be fixed by reinstalling?

Thank you for any thoughts on the matter.

Its possible the hard drive has been damaged, likely when a laptop is running and is subject to a shock. If you can get to your documents from Safe Mode, back them up.

I'd do a full hard disk check using the manufacturers software, usually a bootable CD. You could do it yourself or a good repair shop wil do it for you.

+1 the above sound like your hard drive has sustained a level of shock damage, most pc repair outfits should charge between 55-70 to fix a problem like this with the part costing around 25-50 depending on size and type.
