Guest Mike Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Folks, I'm having trouble installing Server 2008. I have a Dell PE 600SC with 2-80 Gb hard drives and I'm trying to install Server 2008. I had Server 2003 installed on this machine, but wanted to do a clean install, so when I inserted the 2008 DVD and it came up to the partition table for the drives, I told it to delete the partitions, which it did. However, while it has a "New" button, I presume for creating a new partition, it is greyed out and not available to me. It did let me format the drives. All I can do is select one of the drives and hit "next". It says it is starting to install then gives the error "Windows could not prepare the partition selected for installation" and halts. It does that with either drive. Any idea what is causing this and how to resolve it? Thanks, Mike
Guest Ole Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Re: Server 2008 installation problems Do you have installed a non-standard HD controller? If so, you have to mount the driver first. Normally, Vista drivers should work. Guest Mike Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Re: Server 2008 installation problems Thanks Ole. Since it's a server, I don't think there are drivers for Vista or 2008 for the controller. I will look however. Mike "Ole" wrote: > Do you have installed a non-standard HD controller? If so, you have to mount > the driver first.
