Authentication change between SP2 and SP3 denies access to local s

My laptop is a member of our company's domain. Under SP2 I could access a

share on my laptop from a non domain computer by specifying access via a user

account local to the laptop. upgrading to SP3 has changed this capability.

The access still works when the laptop is attached to the domain via either

the lan or via VPN, but when the laptop is detached from the domain, access

to the share is denied with the following message: There are currently no

logon servers availablel to service the logon request. It appears that under

SP3 the OS attempts to validate the credentials of the local account via the

domain BEFORE trying to validate it locally, but if the domain validation

fails, under SP3 the validation bails with the error message. It never

attempts a local validation.

Do you use a shortcut to access the share? If so, try navigating to

the folder 'manually'.

The authentication failure occurs when trying to map the network drive when

the laptop is disconnected from the corporate lan. It suceeds when the

laptop is on the lan.
