mini li Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Hello everyone, I am at a loss as to how to fix this problem so looking for help/advice on how to proceed; I accidentally deleted the Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery driver from device manager: as a result the battery icon is no longer showing up in my system tray, and my laptop will no longer run on battery power, I can not find a replacement driver. Could anyone offer any advice? I have searched the internet to no avail, I have no system restore file, so this is not an option. Can I download the driver from anywhere? Thanks in advance. Quote
RandyL Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 No idea. Perhaps we could tell you more if we knew the make, model and number of the computer. I'm surprised it didn't try to reinstall after a reboot. See if it's hidden in the notification area. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/106787-notification-area-system-icons.html There are some different versions here but no downloads. http://www.pcpitstop.com/drivers/download/Microsoft~ACPI-Compliant~Control~Method~Battery.html Quote We are all members helping other members. RandyL Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Did you check to see if it was hidden per my above link? Also try this. Open device manager. Click on the scan for hardware changes icon. Scan. Also while in device manager expand the battery category and see if the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery is listed. If so does it show any problems? mini li Posted April 6, 2011 Author Posted April 6, 2011 (edited) Yeah I checked the link, it does not appear to be hidden. I have tried everything suggested but nothing has resolved the issue so far. The only thing I haven't tried is going into the BIOS, I'm not even sure how to get in.. There is no message that says press "x" key to enter BIOS. When I go to device manager and scan for hardware changes it does nothing, if I expand the Battery tab it shows only Microsoft AC adapter. ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery is not listed. Plus I downloaded the driver from a link someone sent me on another forum, but I am not entirely sure what to do with it (noob). In the vista32 folder there are: 2KSETUP.EXE 2KSETUP.INI AsusSetup.exe AsusSetup.ini atk0100.cat ATK0100.INF ATKACPI.SYS What do I do with these files? Thanks so much for your help, much appreciated. Any ideas? Thanks for the help, keep em coming. Edited April 6, 2011 by mini li Quote
Synapse Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 It is a system driver, normally installed with the operating system. I've never had to sort this problem out, the best solution I can advise is one I found elsewhere... Run a System Restore to a point prior to uninstalling it. Then after restart tell Windows to scan for new hardware. Quote
mini li Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 yeah I have come across this solution but I do not have system restore running, so not an option. Quote

Goku Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 yeah I have come across this solution but I do not have system restore running, so not an option. Hello and welcome to FPCH Mini Li. :) Please try the below listed steps and see if they help or not: Open Computer. Browse to the following location: C:\WINDOWS\inf Search for a file named battery.inf. Right-click on the file and select the Install option. Wait for the installation to complete and then restart the computer. Let us know if it helps or not! Good luck. -- Goku Quote
