Guest ray124c41 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 II have Word 2002 and WinXP Pro SP2. Even though I have a few bitmap fonts installed (by Microsoft?) and they can be accessed via Notepad and Wordpad, they are not available in Word. Can bitmap fonts be used in later versions of Word or is there a Word 2002 upgrade that enables the use of bitmap fonts? -- ray124c41

Why don't you try asking this in a group that specializes in MS Office problems: microsoft.public.office.misc
Guest ray124c41 Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Re: Bitmap fonts in MS Word 2002 I did. Actually, there are a bunch of microsoft.public.word.XXXXX groups. I'm not fussy where the answer comes from. Besides, other people seem to be posting similar problems and getting responses. I actually found a solution to a problem I had under "Procedure to convert MS Word to JPG" in this newsgroup and left a response there to that effect. -- ray124c41 "PD43" wrote: > ray124c41 <ray124c41@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > >II have Word 2002 and WinXP Pro SP2. I still say your chances are better in the group I pointed you to. I don't know about other folks but when I keep seeing messages appear here (or in other groups) that don't belong, I killfile the thread.
Guest Alan Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Re: Bitmap fonts in MS Word 2002 Hi, This may answer some of your questions. From KB 291354 at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291354 entitled: "Some fonts that were available in Word 95 are no longer available in Word 2002" Microsoft Word is designed to produce WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) output. To attain that goal, the text that is displayed on the screen must be printable. If the text is formatted with a screen font, a font substitution must occur when the document is printed because screen fonts are for display only and cannot be printed. A font substitution may produce non-WYSIWYG output. For this reason, screen fonts are not available in the font list. You can force Word to use a screen font by typing the name of the font, exactly as it is named in Windows, into the font list and pressing ENTER. Screen fonts are also not available in Microsoft Word 2002. Screen fonts may include the following: . Fixedsys . MS Sans Serif . MS Serif . Small Fonts . System . Terminal For additional information about missing fonts, click http://support.microsoft.com/kb/211916/ to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base entitled: "WD2000: Some Fonts Available in Word 95 No Longer Available in Word 2000" Alan "ray124c41" <ray124c41@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F3FC4FA6-57C5-4B9B-807C-568B3B570716@microsoft.com... > II have Word 2002 and WinXP Pro SP2.
