I keep getting a message that comes up when trying to access help and support

and system restore, all my services are not working properly anymore and do

not know why...

the message is

"The application or DLL c:\windows\system32\mls31.dll is not a valid windows

image" keeps poping up whenever trying to access system restore or windows

Re: Help and Support and system restore will not load - error message

Your error message may not be correctly copied by you!

The file is msls.dll not mls31.dll!

Try Start, Run, type "sfc /scannow" without quotes and hit Enter.

Description of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 System

File Checker (Sfc.exe)

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310747

You will need your Windows XP CD. You may encounter problems if your CD

does not include SP3 as seems likely.

Read this link as it contains a way forward if you have no CD

http://ask-leo.com/i_dont_have_an_installation_cd_for_windows_xp_what_if_i_need_one.html

If you need to point to a folder, instead of I386 I would try dllcache.

Hope this helps.

Try running sfc /scannow

Re: Help and Support and system restore will not load - error mess

The scannow has allowed me to run system restore again, however, every time I

try to get it to restore to a certain date no matter how far back I go it

comes up with the error that the system restore did not take, try another day

etc, i did try to restore to an earlier date without any luck either in safe

mode. I assume the files are all corrupted ?

Re: Help and Support and system restore will not load - error mess

You could try using System Restore in Safe Mode. If that does not work

post details of your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements. Also

advise which firewall you are using. Certain software can interfere with

restoration.

Safe mode restoration did not allow a restore either. I use Mcaffee.

Re: Help and Support and system restore will not load - error mess

What exactly is your McAfee version?

Can you be more specific about the error message i.e. post a copy of

what appear in the System log of Event Viewer.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,

Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double

click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a

button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event

Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of

the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from

Event Viewer.
