LisaP Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 I've put a password on my pc to stop the kids getting on when theyre not doin as theyre told:> Thing is, when i was prompted to restart my pc, on start up when it asks for the password, i type it in and it tells me its wrong. I know the passwords right what im typing, and ive not got caps lock on, though i have tried it with that on too! Its just not letting me in! Does anyone know how to get past it or what to do. I know thats what its there for, to stop people getting in, lol but there must be a way! It asks for a password reset disc, which silly me never made, as it never occured to me that i'd need it. Im running windows vista on a HP Pavillion slimline. Please help! lisa Quote
danzil Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 have you tried booting into safe mode then using username = administrator password = blank (blank means leave blank) you may thn be able to log into the pc go to control panel>user accounts then click the user then remove password(im not in vista right now so maybe slightly different) regards danzil Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
LisaP Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 No thats not working either! Heres the wierd bit.............. when i type a random word as the password (yes i'm getting desparate) it comes up straight away that its not correct. Now when i type the right password (and i know its right lol) i get the little spinning graphic as if its loading up and then after about 20 seconds it says its not right !! Could it be a virus? Is there a default password? Im desperate now, wish i'd done the bloody dishes meself! Im on a crappy old pc thats got its own mid life crisis, wont do as its told and crashes when you think youre getting somewhere, but thats a whole other story! The pc im locked out of is pretty new, and ive nothing to lose on it, so im ready to try anything if needs be. (and the worst thing?...........my password hint i thought up to annoy the kids is......"Ha ha ha you cant get in"........classic eh?) Quote
kutedymples Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 my posts was deleted for same reason as this I was not going to post anything again, well...this isn't a question so I guess it is a little different. My two posts were deleted yesterday and were stopped because of a question very similar to this. I thought password help was against the rules? Quote
Goku Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Hello and Welcome to FPCH Kute. :) Providing help for cracking passwords is indeed against the rules as we cannot verify the legitimacy of the "victim's" circumstances. In this thread, Lisa already knew the password for her computer but couldn't understand why she was being denied access. No one of the above members have provided her any information regarding cracking or changing the password. Therefore, it is quite within the rules to express her doubts. And if I did not misunderstand your problem, then I think you were asking for assistance for a tool that is used to crack or change passwords. This is very much outside the rules and therefore your posts were deleted. Please do not think that we will not help you anytime in the future. Feel free to ask any questions or doubts you may have. :) On another note, please do not bump up old threads by posting in them needlessly. This puts the newer threads lower on the list. For safety reasons, I am closing this thread. Please PM me or leave a visitor message in my or any other Moderator / Administrator's profile if you have any questions. Thank you for your patience and co-operation. -- Goku Quote

Hi Lisa, I realize the frustration and confusion you must be feeling over this password issue and I hope you understand why most tech forums can't directly help you with this problem. You may need to contact a local PC repair shop who can reset your password. I've seen this problem before where Vista suddenly refuses to accept a legitimate password as you are describing. Unfortunately we can't help you crack or reset the password. However, in the future, you could be doing something that might avoid you being in such bad situation. See the TIP at the link below. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/articles-and-tutorials/2824-enable-administrator-account-vista.html ---pete--- Edited June 29, 2008 by petef Quote
