Is Word still listed in your Start/All Programs menu?

And if is can you start MS Word this way as opposed to double clicking on a

document?

Start>Run>winword.exe [enter]

What happens? If Word starts, then just fix the file association. The

easiest way is to right-click on a *.doc file, choose Open With (Choose

Program), choose Word, and make sure you check the "always open with this"

box.

I cannot see why installing the Windows SP3 update should result in the

loss of Word 2000. I think investigation will reveal a lesser problem.

Select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and

verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked

and "Hide protected operating system files " is unchecked. You may need

to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that

the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

Next in Windows Explorer search My Computer for winword.exe. If found

right click on the file and select Send to, Desktop (Create Shortcut).

Notepad will open Word documents but normally Word, where installed,

should. You need to check the File Association for doc files and change

it back to Word. This Article tells you how to make the change.

1. This group is abou WINXP, NOT WORD (read the group title).

2. There is NO WINDOWS XP 2000. What OS are you talking about?

Please iron out your post before opening your mouth and spewing

Thanks for the help....sorry, I did not see an MS Word group, guess they

might be a little nicer over there. Last time I looked we were all from the

same country, if your not then great.... if you would like help with a plane

ticket out maybe I can help you arrange one, maybe to the Middle East where

you might be more appreciated for your impeccable manners. By the way, your

name would'nt happen to be Dick would it? Pull the plug out and the s**t will

come out the right end!

Have a nice day!

Actually, this newsgroup is not restricted to the US. You will find many

I understand that, I am not intolerant of any one person or nationality, I

embrace diversity ... but, I will not put up with intolerance or rudeness,

instead of being critical why not be helpful if you believe yourself to be

more intelligent than the rest of the world...and I don't include you Tom

The moron you replied to is on about his 5th or 6th ID in the past few

months because everyone kill files him when they see the same

ignorant posts from him.

Those are the only posts he makes here.

Replying to him doesn't help.

Just kill file him or ignore him.

Yep, ignorant all right. Also intolerant as well. Makes me ashamed

that I used to live in Texas when I see that you live there.

Please confirm the file extension of your documents is doc and not

something else.

Is your Word 2000 a standalone or part of Office 2000. If part of Office

2000 are other programmes such as Excel 2000 also missing ?

If Word 2000 has accidentally been uninstalled you will need to

reinstall and then download and install all the numerous updates since.

I just wanted to say thankyou to you Gerry - I nearly died when I lost my

Word 2000 - it was gone from programme menu and my shortcut on desktop had

disappeared - couldnt find it anywhere - but I knew it was in the computer

somewhere as I could open a document easily, so I made a shortcut from the

document, but of course had to click "new document". I tried Microsoft site

to no avail and finally found your post - thankyou - did winword.exe and

shortcut and it worked a treat! There must be something in the ether

stealing our word icons!
