Guest JG Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Hello all, I have a Freecom Toughdrive 160Gb which I want to use as "travel disk". A part will be public and another part will be private. Since i'll have some files that exceed 4GB, i converted the FAT tot NTFS. All is fine as long as i work on the same computer/same user at home. When I plug it in to another workstation, i can read, but can't alter, delete the data. What should i do to make this fully accessable, on any Windows XP machine? Thanks. jg
Guest R. McCarty Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Re: USB Portable Drive - NTFS You'll need to modify the ACL for the drive contents. You can add a user "Everyone" and grant it Full Rights. XP Pro provides direct access to Security for Files/Folders. Using XP Home you'll have to boot to Safe Mode to be able to modify ACL ( Access Control Listing ). On XP Professional "Simple File Sharing" may have to be modified to enable the Security (TAB) to appear for disk contents. Look at the file security settings. They might have been assigned only to be accessed by a certain user located on your home computer. This should be set to everyone for the file(s) and folder(s) you wish to access from every machine. -- Bjarke Andersen
