Guest Lisa Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Hi, I disabled restore yesterday. Today Windows fails to boot up normally, however I can start it in safe mode. But it won't let me enable restore in safe mode. Is there any other way I can enable restore if I can't boot Windows normally? Please help! Thanks in advance! Lisa

Guest nonsub Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 RE: How can I enable restore in safe mode? Hello Lisa, This page may help too: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm I think the bit you need is down near the bottom of the page: How to Start the Windows XP System Restore Tool if You Can't Boot Boot into safe mode/Log on with Admin Privileges/ Type: %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe. Then press enter. HOW TO: Restore Windows XP to a Previous State. Good luck, Paul "Lisa" wrote: > Hi, > > I disabled restore yesterday. Guest Lisa Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Re: How can I enable restore in safe mode? Hi Gerry, Thanks for your reply. I tried those options, still no luck. I use TrendMicro Office Scan for anti-virus and firewall. Guest Lisa Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 RE: How can I enable restore in safe mode? Hi Paul, Thank you for your reply. I still get the same message that system restore cannot be turned on in safe mode. Please advice. Thanks, Lisa "nonsub" wrote: > Hello Lisa, > > This page may help too: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm > > I think the bit you need is down near the bottom of the page: > > How to Start the Windows XP System Restore Tool if You Can't Boot > > Boot into safe mode/Log on with Admin Privileges/ Type: > %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe. Guest nonsub Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 RE: How can I enable restore in safe mode? Hi Lisa, We’ll try a few more things. These are all on the link I sent you earlier BTW. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_restore.htm 1.In Safe Mode at the Desktop, Right click your ‘My Computer’, select ‘Manage’. 2. In the Computer Management window, expand the ‘Services and Applications’ group. Select ‘services’ 3. In the Right hand pane, scroll down to find ‘System Restore Service’. I suspect yours will show ‘disabled’ in the ‘status’ column, so 4. You can either click on the blue ‘restart the service’ link over on the left; or 5. You can double-click the ‘system restore service’ entry, and in the resultant new window, you can select ‘Service status’ to Start, and ensure that the Startup Type just above it is set to Automatic. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I would recommend you add Kelly Theriot’s site to your favourites. It’s a great source of info. Paul "Lisa" wrote: > Hi Paul, > > Thank you for your reply.
