Re-installing XP onto a 2nd Hard Drive

I have XP installed onto a hard drive which is on a caddy. This installation

is rather old and it takes a long time to bootup. I think that it is

therefore time to do a re-install (I have tried everything to clean it up

but cannot improve the bootup time). The trouble is that a re-installation

is such a pain that I would like to be able to keep running my original

installation while building a new one.

 

Is it possible and legal to install my copy of XP onto a 2nd hard drive,

fitted into a separate caddy, on the same machine as my 1st installation?

This way I could keep running my original, slow to boot, installation and

then swap caddies to continue the laborious task on re-installing XP onto

the 2nd drive.

Yes, you can. Just make sure that you're done before the 30 days are up

for activation on the new XP install.

Ah yes, thanks for that. Presumably, if I activated the new installation

before I was ready, I wouldn't be able to carry on using my old

installation?

If it's been over 120 days since the old computer was activated and you

haven't changed any hardware, you can activate the new and keep using

and updating the old one. Now, that's a violation of Microsoft's scammy

EULA and you'll have to decide if you want to do that or not.
