This was done using a graphics program called 'RealDraw Pro'. It's got a tool in it called 'Push Back' that, amongst other things, can give the effect of interlocking rings. This is possible in other drawing programs too but the tool in RealDraw makes it easy:

Hi Wellies, I just recently got RealDraw pro on board, that is interesting and nice looking work there, and when I get more time to look into how to use realdraw I will be experimenting.

Nev.

It's a good program Nev. Some good instant effects can be obtained without too much of a learning curve. Ideal for printed material or making online Birthday greetings etc.

One trouble with this program is printing to exact sizes. RealDraw rulers can't be changed to inches. There is only the pixel option and you can't easily work out what size a graphic will print with that.

I'm using RealDraw for making greetings card inserts. Some good ones are possible too! The trouble is that the card insert size requirements are given to me in inches, so that's what I have to work with. I've managed to do this in a couple of different ways, largely by using an external screen ruler (JR Screen Ruler). If the ruler D.P.I. figure is set to 96 and the ruler units set to inches, then I can measure dimensions in inches and the inserts will print at the size the ruler says. I know the pixel sizes can be worked out by multiplying the D.P.I. (96) by the inch dimensions of the inserts but using the external screen ruler is less taxing on the brain. :)

The method falls down a bit if the work in progress doesn't fit on the screen and needs zooming out in order to see it (some inserts are full A4 size in portrait). Although the image size zooms out, the ruler of course stays the same. However this can be overcome by setting the project at exactly 50% zoom and then halving the ruler measurement. For example: An 11.8" x 8.2" size project zoomed out to 50%, then measures 5.9" x 4.1" on the screen ruler but still prints at 11.8" x 8.2".

Another handy thing was to make a couple of blank canvas/paper sizes of A4 size. One landscape, one portrait. When used as templates, these give a good basis for drawing the inserts. The canvas can be trimmed once the card insert size has been set using the screen ruler.
