Mainstream support has already ended. Extended support ends April 8 2014. It really is time to move on. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/products/lifecycle

I'm not quite sure but one bit of advice I can give you is don't don't whatever you do buy a computer that has got Windows Starter 7 on it. It is an absolute nightmare - its unbelievable - seriously it is awful - I'm must about ready to throw my shiny new Acer in the bin and just give up.

Hi Lees, why/

Just to make things a little clearer, Windows7 starter is a very basic system installed on small netbooks, and other small portables, as Lees said it is not much good. You need a machine with Windows7 Home premium at the very least. You can then upgrade to Professional or higher at a later time if you wish.

Thanks for the update David, once you have the new one and fired it up, any problems with getting the old brain to co-exist with W7 let us know and we will be happy to help.

I am running W7 and actually glad to have got away from XP, once you work out the differences and get used to using them, I hope you will agree.
