RandyL Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Is there a CD in the drive. What does it say when you right click the drive and select properties? Quote We are all members helping other members. KenB Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 i recently took out my cd / dvd Are you sure that the connections ( power and data cable ) are good? Suggest that you remove them and re-connect. Check the motherboard end too. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Â MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
KenB Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I assume you are not bothering with the connections ..... Then try Start > Run ....type in ......devmgmt.msc .....ENTER Click the + next to DVD CD ROM Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ? georgeriley139 Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 sorry ken yes i have tried the connections they are fine i will your next suggestion now thankyou Quote
georgeriley139 Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 a little bit more info when i go into properties on this device it does state this device is working correctly now im really confused:confused: Quote
RandyL Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Ken and I seem to be working in tangent which is good. Ken knows his stuff. If the connections are good and nothing shows a problem in device manager and you have a known good CD that has been checked in another computer then it might be that your drive is bad. However when you checked the properties you said the the drive was good but you did not say if it showed files on the drive or free or used drive space. Without the requested information it is hard to say if it is the connections, CD, drivers or what. Why did you take it out originally? Was there a problem or reason? Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. georgeriley139 Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Hi Randy yeah mate the cd wouldnt open up Quote
KenB Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Hi, What was listed in Device Manager against DVD CD ROM? Download TweakUI from here: (Assuming you have XP ) http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe I have not used this for a while .... I think you should be able to click on "Drives" down the left side. Make sure all drive letters have a tick next to them. You will find it in All Programs > Powertoys Edited April 19, 2011 by KenB Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!  MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
georgeriley139 Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Hi Ken ive downloaded it but there is no drives listed Quote
georgeriley139 Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 managed that they are all ticked Quote
RandyL Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Have you checked the CD in another computer? Are you sure the drive is CD/DVD? If it's just a CD drive a DVD disk won't work. KenB Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 You didn't answer this: What was listed in Device Manager against DVD CD ROM? Try right clicking > uninstall  Reboot. Windows will find "New Hardware" and re-install the drivers. Plastic Nev Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi, in post 10 you replied that the drive wouldn't open being the reason why you removed it. I am now thinking the drive is duff, possibly mechanically. When the system reports the device is working all it is reporting is the electronics are OK, but if mechanically dud the read head won't move or other things such as the disk mechanical drive. I suggest at least trying a borrowed but known to be working drive, and see if that will run. If so the old one needs replacing. Nev. Quote  Need help with your computer problems? georgeriley139 Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 just a thought does it matter which of the 4 pin power cables i use Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 It shouldn't do as most power supplies come with the two so you can install a second drive if you wish to. Nev.
