XP SP1 Lose Video

Hi,

I have XP SP1 installed on a computer. I have a VGA display connected.

Everything boots fine. If I decide to boot up without my monitor connected

(or forget). Then after bootup I connect a monitor I get no video! I power

down, hook up my monitor, power up, and I see Starting Windows XP..... But

then my monitor loses it's SYNC and I get no video and it never boots all the

way up. Video is gone forever under Windows. I can never boot up now with a

monitor. I always lose sync halfway throught bootup. It is like when I booted

up without a monitor, XP either reconfigured the graphics or removed the the

driver for the monitor. When I plugged the monitor in and booted up XP never

figured configured itself correctly again. Is this a known problem with SP1

(I have to stay with SP1)?

Thanks,

Todd

If you have access to another monitor, disconnect your monitor and connect the

other one to your machine. If the other monitor works properly with your

machine, connect your original suspect monitor to another machine to rule out if

it is working properly or not. If your original suspect monitor does not work

properly when connected to another machine and another known properly working

monitor works when connected to your machine, consider your suspect monitor as

dead.

Boot to Safe Mode and change the refresh rate, etc., try restarting again.
