Guest Sue Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 A User on my computer cannot change any settings, eg sounds, desktop wallpaper. A while ago he was administrator, but got changed back to limited account. I deleted his account and re-instated it but it is still the same. I am thinking there is something in registry blocking him. Any ideas?
Guest Ron Badour Posted June 14, 2008 Posted June 14, 2008 Re: User cannot change desktop etc Do you mean by re-instated that you created a new account? If you created a new account, did you give administrator or limited privileges? If you gave administrator but it somehow switched to limited, then delete the account and create another using a variation of the user name. For example, if the original account was: Ron, make the new account: RonB -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2008 "Sue" <Sue@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D917E243-3BCB-4705-A71F-CAB7B3AAAFFC@microsoft.com... >A User on my computer cannot change any settings, eg sounds, desktop > wallpaper. Guest Sue Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Re: User cannot change desktop etc Thankyou for that advice, but I already tried that and while all files are on desktop, still cannot change wallpaper, sounds, ANYTHING. Could this somehow be related to SP3 problem which appeared in another post?> -- > Regards > > Ron Badour > MS MVP 1997 - 2008 > > > "Sue" <Sue@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:D917E243-3BCB-4705-A71F-CAB7B3AAAFFC@microsoft.com... > >A User on my computer cannot change any settings, eg sounds, desktop > > wallpaper. Guest Sue Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Re: User cannot change desktop etc OK I HAVE SOLVED IT. Copied folder under this logon and changed name (ie Alex to Alex1). Deleted user. Created user again, then put all folders one by one (included hidden) back into the new user folder. Found a file 'ntuser' that mucked it all up again, so deleted this and used original that was created when new user was created. Hope this helps others.
