My sons HP Laptop's Window XP Home editions last update was in 2007

December. I tried to update but every time I click on the windows update the

default msn.com window will come up. If I put the address for the update site

in the address bar it says error 404 site not found. I have IE 7 It used to

update automatically but not since Dec 2007. Also I can not check online if

it need to update. What can be the problem? I scanned, no virus. Internet is

slow.

Re: Window Xp does not update.

Try each of these 3 free programs in order one at a time checking windows

update after each one, Remove-it, Svchosts Fix tool, Automatic Update Repair

Tool. Follow the prompt and choose yes each time. Download them here

Re: Window Xp does not update.

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or

anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea Timer,

AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before

attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party

firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!

Re: Window Xp does not update.

Thank you again ! It worked. I only had to do the Svchost Fix first and did

the Remove it also to make sure. The links in my start up folder still didn't

worked but the links in the Help folder did. It seems that I didn't need any

uder update except the SP3 which I dodn't want anyway. Thank you again for

your help!!
