Unable to End or Uninstall Process

I uninstalled an old version of Kaspersky antivirus today. There didn't seem

to be any problems associated with the uninstall process. After

uninstalling, I restarted my system (Windows XP, Service Pack 3).

Yet when I go to the Processes tab, I find that one of the Kaspersky

processes is still running: kavsvc.exe.

Right-clicking on the process and choosing Delete, I am presented with the

window "Access Denied." There is nothing that I can do to stop the process.

Furthermore, there doesn't seem to be anything that I can do -- nothing that

I know of -- where I can get rid of this process.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might permanently delete this

process from my computer?

1. Check on Kaspersky's website to see if they have a removal tool.

2. Go into Safe Mode and set the service to Disabled. To get into Safe Mode,

repeatedly tap the F8 key as the computer is starting up. Then use your

arrow key to select Safe Mode. Once there:

Start>Run>services.msc [enter]

Scroll down to the Kaspersky service, double-click it to get its Properties,

and set it to Disabled. Check to see if there are any other Kaspersky

services and do the same.

Husky

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/Autoruns.mspx

With Autoruns you can uncheck an item, which disables it from starting,

or you can can right click an item and then delete it. If you uncheck

you can recheck to re-enable the item. It is a much safer approach than

editing the Registry. Another useful feature of the programme is that

you can right click an item and select Search Online to get information

about the item selected.

You could try renaiming in Safe Mode and then try deleting.

Hope this helps.

Re: Unable to End or Uninstall Process

Thanks very much for these suggestions! I will have the opportunity to try

these tomorrow (Monday, June 16). I will be back in touch on this post if

they do not work.
