Figured I put it in here since i'm on Win7.

Basically, I've had my pc since christmas '10, and from start off I had this problem. Basically, whenever I'd turn my pc on, the fan would come on and my box would start working and e'rything, but my monitor wouldn't sync to it, so I'd have to turn it off and back on, and do this again and again and again until it would sync and i hear the beep noise. Sometimes it'd work after 1 go, sometimes 50;really varied

I've had it looked at before, I think the problem according to my uncle was that the ram had trouble syncing to my monitor, so I had 4 ram, but now I've since had to take it down to 2 ram. Went on my pc on Friday, everything was dandy, then I had to nip out so I put it on sleep, then remembered I had to check something so I moved my mouse, key bashed (the usual) to get it to come out of sleep, but it weren't having it, so I left it in the end, and went out. Came back in late last night and it was still in sleep mode so i button mashed and stuff but it wasn't turning back on, the box was making all it's noises but the screen weren't turning on. So I turned it off by the button, tried today and it's not turning on at all. I've opened up my pc and removed the ram and stuff and tried it, once there's no ram it makes a constant beeping noise then stops. With 1 ram it's still not syncing. This has happened before, it turns out it was in hibernation mode or something, but last time I removed the ram tried it again, took it out of hibernation mode, then put my ram back in and it worked fine, but this time this is not working. I'm stumped for ideas.

Much love and thanks.

I don't think this is RAM, more a problem with the monitor or the graphics control.

First thing to try is can you borrow a monitor from a friend and try that, if the borrowed monitor comes on straight away then it will prove your is either now dud or not reliable.

Let us know how you get on with that if it is possible to do, and one of our graphics experts may be able to help more if not the monitor.

Right, tried it with a different monitor and it's still not working! what now?

Also, another problem has introduced itself, it seems when I try to turn my PC on it starts (fan going and stuff) then stops for a few seconds....then starts again?

Hi again, with what you said now I went back and re read your first post, my apologies but missed seeing that even the POST beep isn't at first sounding, only after much messing turning on and off before you hear it. That is probably why you were told it may be a RAM problem.

Right now though, there are many possibilities as to what it may be, but lets start with the simple stuff, with power off, and a touch of the case to be sure there is no static built up.

One at a time, pull out or disconnect, then reconnect, every single plug and socket you can find, but start with the power supply plugs first, pulling them out and replacing makes sure there is a good connection between all pins and scrapes off any metal oxides that may have been present or built up over time.

Try that and let us know if it changes anything.
