Plastic Nev Posted April 24, 2011 Posted April 24, 2011 Hi Vamp, welcome back, I am afraid there is a long list of what could be wrong, but even though you are getting lights lighting up, that only proves one of the power supply outputs is working, so it could be the power supply, if possible to borrow a known to be working power supply and temporarily connect that in, it will be a start in finding what it is. Next is did you ever hear a beep at start up and if so are you hearing it now? I know some computers have been made without the POST beep speaker fitted, so it may never have beeped, but if it once did but isn't now, that is a good sign of a failed power supply. Nev. vamp Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 Hi Nev nice to b bk But now to fry your brain... I put a new power pack in and got the CD Rom to work but the HDD will only work if 2 HDD's are connected to the mains but only one is connected to the Mother board plus nothing from monitor but no signel and nothing from keyboard and mouse so I'm thinking of changing Motherboard but if I put a 3.5Ghz pent 4 onto a 1.5Ghz pent 4 motherboard will it go bang lol ty for the help Quote
Plastic Nev Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Definitely going down a difficult road here, I am not sure on compatibility between CPU and motherboard anyway, but I can tell you that if a new motherboard is fitted that is different from or to the original MB, then Windows will see a new environment and refuse to boot. Providing you have a full Windows XP pro disk, or access to one, that can be sorted with a system repair using that disk. However the compatibilities business is way above my limited knowledge, so I suggest hanging on till one of our Processor and motherboard expert members can have a look. It would be helpful if you can give as much detail as possible about the CPU, and the motherboards, both the original and the proposed new one. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? KenB Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Hi, the HDD will only work if 2 HDD's are connected to the mains but only one is connected to the Mother board I don't understand this statement. Do you have 2 Hard Drives ? Is one sitting there not connected to anything? You didn't answer Nev's question re. Beeps. When you switch on - do you get any beeps at all ? Monitor says no signal ... This could be linked to the cable connecting the monitor - check the pins to see if they are bent / broken. Try the monitor on another system to see if it works. It could be the Video Card or onboard video ( whichever you have ) It could be a motherboard fault. You should normally get one POST beep. If you are getting more this is an indication as to the problem. let us know the sequence ( 1 long 2 short or whatever it is ) Ths is assuming that the internal speaker is connected - most towers have this. Please give us feedback on all of the above. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! playsmartcasino Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Do you happen to have any of the computer's specs you can post? Problems like this could be a number of things, but my guess is either dead PSU or motherboard. Let's start here: open up the case, and see if there are any led lights on the motherboard that are lit up, even when the power is off, as long as it is plugged in you should get something. Quote
vamp Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Hi sorry for the delay in replying Ok no beep's at all from motherboard but it dose light up even if switched off. yes there are 2 Hard Drive's both are connected by the strap's but only 1 has power. Now every thing is working Except keyboard, mouse, and monitor say's No Signel. Systems as fare as I can say is 2 512MB RAM, A 140GB main Hard drive and a 75 GB Backup hard drive, a pentium 4 duo cpu and a G-force 3D card plug and play. There is no built in port for monitor on motherboard Quote
KenB Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I'm confused. In your first post you said that you couldn't boot up. Now you say... Now every thing is working Except keyboard, mouse, and monitor Is the machine booting up - and how do you know? Are you getting the Windows Chimes from your speakers?
