Guest skydargo Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 i select restart when prompted to after an update and/or selecting restart from the (START) selection. Ok you brainiacs grab ahold of this one. computer shuts down, power light stays on only the fans working and wala no restart. i have to hold in the power button to shut it off, then press it again to turn it on, only it comes on and no display or keyboard lights. i press the power again then again to turn it on then windows starts to load. sometimes with the checking disc screen. i would appreciate some intel, ive searched endlessly and find only similarities and no ressolution. windows xp M.C.E sp3/emachine -- if i only had a brain
Guest JohnB Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 Re: computer restart issue/after shutdown Sounds like a hardware problem, not a Windows problem. Take the power supply to a repair shop and have it tested. A good way to prove that it isn't the OS is to make a bootable floppy (http://www.bootdisk.com). If it boots ok from the floppy, than it probably is XP. If it has the same or similar problems, it's hardware.
