Wi-Fi Card and best/proper OS

I have an HP Proliant ML-110 G4 server with XP Pro SP2.

I hope someone can help me.

1. I have and Edimax EW-7728IN Wi-Fi card. It used to work correctly but I

used a maintenance software that deleted like 300 "unnecessary" software or

registry fixing stuff etc. Now my PC detects the wireless connections

available but cannot connect to them. Some them says they cannot detect the

IP address or the DNS values or "acquiring network address". It detects the

signal strength (54-100 Mbps) but never connects.

2. Recently a bought the above machine. I installed Win XP SP2 and have

worked fairly well with the exception of video. I'm having problems with

video because my monitor has a top resolution of 1680x1050 while currently

the best resolution the factory graphics card can give me is 1024x768. I

just knew that I can install a 64 bit OS to this computer.

2a. What I'm missing for not having a 64bit OS?

2b. Do I need a new grphics card to fix the video thing or a new OS 64 bit

will do the job?

2c. Which of the 64bit OS should I install to my PC (XP64, server 2003 64

bit, etc)?

As to the Wi-fi card and that cleaner software.

See if a System Restore point created before you used the Cleaner is

available, is so try System Restore, then ditch the registry cleaner in the

trash can.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest driver software for your

graphics card, if not do so.

Most video cards should be able to support the resolution you need.

If your graphics is built into the motherboard then you may have a problem.

Access to some more memory, but this may make little difference to you if

you aren't doing tasks that require large amounts of data.

You must be sure that drivers are available for all the hardware you need to

use; otherwise, you must replace it.

Don't expect an OS driver to fix a hardware limitation.

Check the specs for the video adapter and replace it as needed.

Sorry, but this is a question answered by your needs. Server 2003 is not a

desktop system and requires an amount of tweaking to make it fill that

role - and then there is limited "free" A/V utilities for the server OS.

XP has a limit of 10 network connections, so if you are planning on running

this as a server, XP may well be inappropriate.

Go over to here, get the drivers and re-install them:

http://www.edimax.com/en/support_detail.php?pd_id=223&pl1_id=1&pl2_id=44

Also, there does not seem to have a Server 2003 version of this

wireless drivers so I am not sure if it will work in Server 2003.

As for the OS,

XP 64 is only available as OEM -- on new PCs

Your PC is a server grade unit but Server 2003 is not a desktop PC not

the same as XP.

Also, Windows XP sales are still "on-track" to be stopped on June 30,

2008.

RE: Wi-Fi Card and best/proper OS

1. My graphic card is built-in the mother board. So I have a problem. I

already did everything regarding re-installing the driver and getting the

most recent one. I think the cleaning software deleted something in Win XP

Pro needed for this.

I also went to the Geek Squat at Best Buy to buy a new graphics car and

apparently the PCIe 8X and 4X that comes in the motherboard is so "rare" that

they don't sale anything that can fit in the slots.

2. Something about the 64 bit OS vs Winx XP Pro?

You can not buy XP 64Bit for our Compaq. It was never "designed" for

using any non-server version of Windows and never had a "bundled" XP

with it.

As for as the on-board video card, these are usually a ATi Mobility

chip.
