sobby Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Hello, Im Patrick and new to the forums. Before asking my question id like to start by saying. THANK YOU for having such a wonderfull site and dedicated team to help people in need. Ok, as topic says. Problem description : New PC build. Asus M4A78LT-M/ X6 phenom 1055T/4GB 550W powersupply. 1) Motherboard using onboard VGA monitor wont boot. 2) Post beep which gives a single beep is extremely soft and distorted (broken up). 3) Cpu fan is not at a constant speed. It sounds as if the fan's speed drops JUST a little every 2 seconds. Like clockwork. 4) DvDplayer will make a clicking sound at the exact same interval as the cpu fan. Also on the same interval the led indicator on the DvDPlayer will go off and on. 5) Trying to open the dvd player results in weird behaviour. Things i have tried : Removed all hd's and drives. unplug every cable not needed for boot. Powered motherboard using 24pin plug and 12vATX plug. Same problem. Wont boot, post beep distorted, cpu fan slight speed drop. Does anybody have a clue as to what the problem might be ? Thanks in advance. Quote
RandyL Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Maybe it's the power supply cutting in and out. Any chance you could borrow one to see? Quote We are all members helping other members. sobby Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Thank you for your reply. Borrowed a 500W psu. Now i cant even heard the beep. Using the 550W psu i can hear the post beep extremely softly and broken up. Also tried putting the mob on carboard. Same results. Hopefully i have narrowed it down to it being the cpu or the mobo. Or are there any other things that could be the problem ? Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Hi Patrick, it sounds a lot like a faulty motherboard, especially as you say you have tried it while resting on cardboard, that removes any doubt of a short circuit to the case. Being a new build and therefore new MB I would hope there is still warranty on the board for a replacement. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
