Guest Pinger Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 I've got a Dell with XP that's going on 6 years old and has issues. I've found that the new systems do not bundle software the way they used to and that Microsoft Office is an added expense. I'm staying with Windows XP; the guy I spoke with told me that the software that was bundled with my old machine---for which I have the CD's--will only load on the machine for which it was originally intened---and it would not load on the machine that I'm about to purchase. This may well me true, but is news to me. Can anyone in the know verify that for me? pinger

OEM versions are "normally" not permitted to be transferred to a different PC or a different person without also including the PC that these were installed on. Also, large PC makers (like Dell) tend to make the recovery / restore CDs detect the original PCs that they were intended for.

MS Works has normally been the bundled freebie. >I'm staying with Windows XP; the guy I spoke with told me that the software >that was bundled with my old machine---for which I have the CD's--will only >load on the machine for which it was originally intened---and it would not >load on the machine that I'm about to purchase. > >This may well me true, but is news to me.
