Loading Microsoft Office on system

I've got a Dell with XP that's going on 6 years old and has issues. I've

found that the new systems do not bundle software the way they used to and

that Microsoft Office is an added expense.

I'm staying with Windows XP; the guy I spoke with told me that the software

that was bundled with my old machine---for which I have the CD's--will only

load on the machine for which it was originally intened---and it would not

load on the machine that I'm about to purchase.

This may well me true, but is news to me. Can anyone in the know verify

that for me?

Bundled software is known as Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM.)

OEM versions are "normally" not permitted to be transferred to a

different PC or a different person without also including the PC that

these were installed on.

Also, large PC makers (like Dell) tend to make the recovery / restore

CDs detect the original PCs that they were intended for.

Office has always been an added expense. MS Works has normally been

the bundled freebie.

Install it. What can it hurt? It'll work.

In my experience Microsoft software bundled with a machine would not install

on another machine.
