Email Client

Hi

 

My current eMail account is with Hotmail and at one time I used Outlook Express to read my mail. Now Microsoft has stopped supporting Outlook Express I am looking for a good eMail client. I have tried Windows LIVE but that does not really meet my needs. I need a client that will down load all my messeges in all the folder that I have on Hotmail.

 

The reason I need a client - Hotmail, although it does a good job with the spam/junk, nowadays spam/junk comes from invalid sources. Althought the subject line can be the same, what is after the @ can be anything. Therefore I am constantly using the Block command which does not really block out the spam as it will reapeare comming with a different ending - spam@pibnbyuvu.com then spam@qwrwetry.com, etc.....

 

So, does anyone know of an eMail client that will allow me to download ALL my folders and messeges from Hotmail?

Windows Live Mail is an email client just as Outlook Express is. You do actually download your mail. I use it on Windows 7.

 

Unfortunately just as in Outlook Express the email has to be POP to set up message rules to filter out spam or filter in legitimate mail. Hotmail is IMAP.

 

Years ago you could set up many different rules within Hotmail itself but no more. Have you looked at this in Hotmail,

 

Hotmail>Options>More options>Customizing Hotmail-Rules for sorting new messages

 

With Windows Live Mail each email account has it's own set of folders. Unlike OE which had only the one. So with each account you get Inbox-Drafts-Sent items-Junk email-Deleted items. Then you get the shared folders.

 

I have not actually used Hotmail on Live but I used to use it on OE when I had OE before Hotmail stopped allowing it on OE. What it did was create a complete set of folders for Hotmail.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft Outlook will do it. You can try it using a trial version and then pay for it if you like it from somewhere like this

Thunderbird is another good client and is free, I haven't used the latest version so can't comment on its compatibility with Hotmail. Hopefully someone else can fill in the blanks :)
