New motherboard causes Blue Screen

I installed a new motherboard in a computer running XP Home w all updates.

The computer Blue Screened with a 0x0000007E.

I booted into Safe Mode and installed all of the drivers for the new

motherboard(USB/Video etc)

Reboot and get the same Blue Screen

Reboot into Safe Mode and it says I have to Activate and that I cannot do it

in Safe Mode.

I guess I should have tracked down the offending drivers/hardware before

installing all of the new ones, but what do I do now?

You can try updating the BIOS and checking all settings. Make sure you have

the right network drivers as well. It is easier to just start with a clean

set up, I found this out when changing mobos and getting the same problems

as well. Best of luck.

I'll try the BIOS, but cannot make any changes to my XP setup because I

cannot get in.

RE: New motherboard causes Blue Screen

Try doing a repair install first, generally when replacing a MB, the best

thing to do is not to boot to the HD first thing, boot to the install cd and

perform a repair install.

isolate your hardware drivers ie make backups first.

Make SURE that you're not playing around with overclocking.

If there is a setting in the BIOS to set everything to "safe"

settings, do that.

Not if you have on board audio and video and also happen to have an

audio card and a video card. Same for a NIC.

Yes, a repair install is his next best step.

I just did a major upgrade of almost all components and followed the XP

procedure here and it worked perfectly.

Re: New motherboard causes Blue Screen

I did a repair and got the same error after reboot.

I'm still stuck, I might just have to reinstall everything.
