As regards uninstalling live messenger, it would not remove whatever stuff microsoft has put on my system due to apparently me getting a live.com email, with which i do nothing but use it to forward, and somehow, live and msn live, whatever that is, as I do not use msn (dont know what that is.) It wouldnt' be prudent to uninstall xp and reload. So, not sure what you mean by well known? You mean here in this forum? "Gerry" wrote: > Casey > > Why do you need Windows Live Messenger? I've gone there before when first had problems. A person writes back with a solution having nothing to do with the problem and as I see is the same area am not very hopeful. There is no selection (topic given) for my question, but I put it in one of them anyway, but if is as before, they do not know how to help. The topics are narrow, and aren't forums. I was looking for that, but now that I went to it realize is not what I need for resolution. I was hoping for a forum. So, we'll see what the reply is, and I do so very much appreciate you wrote with that, I've been looking for that area a while, and bookmarked it. We've told him what they are and how they got there. If the bogging-down bothers him, he should be able to configure the anti-spyware application to ignore the files...or he can delete them (and lose all of his encrypted Messenger contact data). -- ~PA Bear Gerry wrote: > Bear > > Does it matter? > > If you read the whole thread you would appreciate that the complaint is > about the excessive number of files generated by Messenger relating to > it's Contact list. This is the original post! Hi, there are files in my system, which must number close to 1000, and I need help to know which microsoft forum to ask for help in how to get rid of these. I noticed them first when spyware scanner was scanning this area for about an hour, that's how many there are. Here is one of them and they all look the same, just different numbers. 08E84DB0-66CF-4546-B510-8A6B12D9BF8B.WindowsLiveContact If is related to windows live, I dont' know what that is, never downloaded anything to do with it. Microsoft or hotmail said i had to have a live.com email so i got one and that was months back and since then, appears when junk was tossed on system, though not sure. Can someone direct me which forum to go to to get help with finding out what these files are and how to get rid of them? I have maybe 15 people in my msn im for addresses and im just 3 or so people total. No clue if is related to above. Thanks for your help! casey -- Regards. There is still something odd here. On my system, with ZoneAlarm, the virus scan is what takes the time (around half an hour, with the ..CAB files excluded from the scan, for around 170,000 files currently). The _spyware_ scan is an almost trivial afterthought by comparison. Again on my system, all files are scanned. I suspect I could scan another few score thousand files, maybe even a few hundred thousand, without becoming concerned about how long it took. What kind of file, and what kind of spyware scanning software, can lead to a time-consuming slowdown? Limited minds, at least mine, want to know.
