Installing MS Office Software on new computer question....

Recommended Posts

I've got a Dell with XP that's going on 6 years old and has issues. I've

found that the new systems do not bundle software the way they used to and

that Microsoft Office is an added expense.

I'm staying with Windows XP; the guy I spoke with told me that the software

that was bundled with my old machine---for which I have the CD's--will only

load on the machine for which it was originally intened---and it would not

load on the machine that I'm about to purchase.

This may well me true, but is news to me. Can anyone in the know verify

that for me?

Microsoft Office has ALWAYS been an added expense, and OEM versions have

NEVER been transferable. So IF you have an OEM version of Office, you

may NOT transfer it, as it was only licensed for use on the PC you

bought it with. You are the ONLY one who can tell whether or not it is

OEM(it likely is, but YOU have to check).

You posted the same exact info two days ago and got replies.

Gonna post it again in another two days?

I THOUGHT that I had already seen a question exactly like this one a couple

of days ago.

At first I chalked it up to my possibly encroaching senility.

Now, I'm glad to see I haven't yet lost all my marbles. :->

Right....I posted it on 6-17-08 at 11:47 AM. But when I went back in, I can

see the other 20, 000 postings...but my post nor any of the replies appear

on my machine....thus the re-posting. Gee, maybe that's why I need a new

computer.

Will I post it again it two days? No, now that I have been able to read a

good reply and also see how easily some people become annoyed, I definitely

will not.

I would think that is unlikely and that it would load & work ok.

Re: Installing MS Office Software on new computer question....

If its OEM software supplied when you purchased the Dell, eg Office, then it

wont install on your new PC.

Its tied to the PC it was origonally installed on and dies with it
