memmem Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I need to replace the front USB panel on my grandson's Packard Bell X2415. I have the part but I have not been able to remove the outer covers. I have searched on line for a service manual with no success. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. So far I can find nothing myself, have you got the model number correct? Is this a desktop or a laptop/netbook machine, If desktop I may be able to help a bit more as I have one of the Imedia models, and could investigate by dismantling my own.:D Nev. memmem Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 The model number is correct. To be pedantic it is an iMedia X2414. It is a desktop. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 I cannot find anything about this model... I would of said look inside the case and it is possible there is little clips you have to push in individualy to pop off the front cover.....Possibly screws/ Do both sides of the tower come off? Synapse Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Is this it? http://support.thetechguys.com/layout.aspx?ID={e25252f3-ecf8-47f0-95f3-a01e93c285e6}&CatID={0d2b67aa-d75f-4088-93dd-23bd31107db0} Quote
memmem Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 (edited) Thanks Synapse This shows the X2414 which is very very similar . It has four USB ports on the back whereas the X2415 only has two. I have been trying to get the right side off (looking from the front ) but it would appear from the picture that only the left side comes off. Do you agree? Edited May 9, 2011 by memmem Quote
Synapse Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Perhaps only one side comes off on your case. Most cases bought for self build systems have both sides removable as you probably know, but really only the left side needs to come off in most cases. I've seen other factory built systems with one side only removable, I can't say for definite but it does look that way. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 The Imedia main cases are all fairly similar in shape and knowing production techniques the plastic surround may well be the same for all. I am not taking mine apart tonight, now, but will look in the morning, and if possible to remove it easily and photograph it I will do so. It does look like it is all one big L shaped plastic cover, though there may be a joint I cannot at the moment see. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Plastic Nev Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I have found that the main plastic covers are in two parts. First of all remove the two rear screws for the side panel and slide the side panel out pulling from the rear, then lay the machine down with that side up. As in this first photo you will see arrows pointing to the three plastic clips that hold the front panel on. Gently push them downwards and prise the cover off from what would be the bottom and in this view right hand end of that front panel. http://i28.servimg.com/u/f28/14/68/69/96/sam_0620.jpg Next is to remove the top panel, you have to do it in this order, front panel first, then the top one. Note that there is two sideways clips for this. Push in the two top ones, the left hand one is sideways like the out of view one. Prise off a little then push in the out of view sideways clip, the panel should lift clear then. http://i28.servimg.com/u/f28/14/68/69/96/sam_0621.jpg You will then have access to the front mounted USB sockets on the right, there are two visible screws for these, arrowed in both photo's. Once that assembly is removed, it looks like a clipped together metal box, this should be able to be prised open to get at each USB socket. If any rivets, they will have to be drilled out and replaced with the new socket, small screws and nuts may suffice if no rivet gun available. This is the top view with arrow pointing to the fixing screw of the USB assembly. http://i28.servimg.com/u/f28/14/68/69/96/sam_0622.jpg And this is the view from under the assembly, again arrow pointing to fixing screw. There may be another hidden under the card reader mountings, I am not sure about that as I couldn't see one. http://i28.servimg.com/u/f28/14/68/69/96/sam_0623.jpg Refitting is the exact reverse order, when the front panel is fitted, make sure it is fully pressed in so as to not block the card reader slots. I hope this has been of help, Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Register here If Free PC Help has helped you then please consider a donation. memmem Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 Thanks everyone . I finally got around to looking at the iMedia X2414 USB problem. I eventualy got the side off the "Zeus" cabinet but found another problem. There is only ONE side panel. Here is a picture of the inside Unfortunately the panel I need to get at is behind the metal cage (top right) . Since there is no access from the other side any ideas as to how I remove this ? The cage houses the DVD and memory card readers. Thanks Quote
Plastic Nev Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Hi, if you look between the outer metal of the case and that cage, you should see plastic clips, similar to those in my previous photo's, though different to my machine the principal of removing the plastic outer will be the same I would think.
