Guest Michael Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Hello. I have one windows 2008 standard edition server I would like to know if I can upgrade this machine (by changing the key) to the enterprise version. I would like to run more than one virtual machine on this server at this point it time and would like the ability to do so. I am running window 2008 64 bit on 64 bit hardware using windows 2003 virtual machine (32 bit) Another question I have is if I run on windows 2008 DC do I have to upgrade all of my CALS. They are only windows 2003 cals. This machine would be my PDC and would not be serving shares to my users as they will continue to use the windows 2003 server at their sites. I want to upgrade one DC so I can have access to group policy perferences I believe this requires at least one windows 2008 DC. Or can group policy peferences run on a windows 2008 member server or a windows 2003 DC. Michael

Best bet is to contact your local distributor. For the CALs, I dont think that you need to upgrade your CALs. -- Jabez Gan Microsoft MVP: Windows Server http://www.msblog.org "Michael" <Michael@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0F3B8D2C-1AA7-4975-A542-26804ED1DA8A@microsoft.com... > Hello. > > I have one windows 2008 standard edition server I would like to know if I > can upgrade this machine (by changing the key) to the enterprise version. > > I would like to run more than one virtual machine on this server at this > point it time > and would like the ability to do so. > > I am running window 2008 64 bit on 64 bit hardware using windows 2003 > virtual machine (32 bit) > > Another question I have is if I run on windows 2008 DC do I have to > upgrade > all of my CALS.
