Hi, I have an Acer Aspire M5201 running Vista Ultimate. Recently I've been noticing a continuous beep coming from the internal speaker whenever the computer is turned on. I know that there are different reasons for beeps and I've looked online for the code of a continuous one but cant find anything. I've heard it can be to do with RAM not being inserted properly but I've checked that and its all fine. Can anyone tell me if its an alarm for overheating etc (and how to turn it off in the American Megatrends BIOS if its possible, I had a look but couldnt see anything) or an error code? Thanks. Hello and welcome.....

This points to Video or RAM......

Try resitting your video card...Or try a diffrent card.

If you have individual RAM sticks test them individualy....Remove them all and place one stick in reboot does the computer beep?

Remove that stick and test another one.

Try this:

Is this one long and continuous beep or even a squeal sound from inside the box?

Does the computer work OK otherwise?

The noise actually may be a fan bearing beginning to fail and if so will need a new fan.

If the fans are OK and the rest of the computer works OK, providing the sound is definitely coming from the internal speaker it just may be an odd fault from the BIOS. Remove the small battery, and leave it out for at least a minute, then replace it, that will reset the BIOS and hopefully stop the noise. Otherwise disconnecting the speaker will either stop the noise, or definitely prove the sound is from something else.

Nev.
