The graphics card on my dell dimension e521 desktop has given up the ghost. I have been given a Nvidia geforce 8600gt by a friend, but unfortunately this requires an extra 6 pin pci express power supply. The only spare power supply cables in my desktop are 1 sata power supply and the floppy drive power cable.

My question is can i get a cable to convert either of the spare leads to the 6 pin needed for the card? If not, will I have to invest in an upgraded power supply with the required lead, or will i have to get a different graphics card?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi

8600gt is what has just died in my dell 531 but it didnt need a extra power so maybe yours is 8600gts which did as far as i remember.

I'm personally trying to decide between a GT430 ,GT440 (both a little better than 8600gt) or GTS450 ( alot better than 8600gt)

All will run i think on a minimum of a quality 400Watt PSU and the GTS450 will need extra 6 pin power from supply.

Cheers Kev
