Acronis Image - Dual Boot

Recommended Posts

Hi,

We use Acronis to image PC's. I need to set up a dual boot system

with XP and Ubuntu. I would like to just deploy the image using

Acronis. Is there a way to set up a partitions and to put the XP

image on one but leave another partition for me to put Ubuntu on? The

image was NOT set up this way, it takes all the unpartitioned space on

the boot drive. Short of creating a new image or adding another hard

drive, is there an easy way around this?

Thanks.

Re: Acronis Image - Dual Boot

Hi, Kevin,

I'll offer the same advice I received here not long ago. Check out the

Acronis support forum online at

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65

You'll need to sign up to post; unfortunately, they don't have a newsgroup

you can subscribe to through your news server. It's a great forum, though.

I've learned a lot from the people there.

Kevin

You need a Partition Manager and a Boot Manager:

Hope this helps.

Re: Acronis Image - Dual Boot

Acronis Image only backs up used space - Acronis Clone option copies entire

partition.

Create a second partition - install Ubuntu - Run Acronis and select both

partitions to image.

Not necessarily true. If the user selects a sector-by-sector backup, both data

and free space is copied. Here's an excerpt from the Acronis FAQ cited below:

The sector-by-sector backup allows you to create an image of all sectors of the

selected partition. This image will contain not only sectors with data but also

sectors that are free. As a result, this image will be equal in size to the disk

being imaged, as there will be no data compression. This method is useful if a

partition being backed up is not supported by Acronis True Image 11 Home or is

corrupted. In this case, all sectors of this partition are included in this

image and will be restored.
