Guest Alan C. Brown Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Don't if this is the correct newsgroup for this problem. Tried to reinstall Win XP Pro on my Toshiba 5105-S702 laptop using the Recovery CDs (circa 2001) that were supplied with it, but was blocked at the start of the recovery process, with a message to the effect that the product key was not valid. I suspect this happened because the original defective motherboard on the laptop had been replaced with a new motherboard. Luckily I had previously purchased a Retail Version Xp Pro SP1 a couple years ago, so I was able to use that instead of the Recovery CDs. However I would still like to know how to resolve this problem (using original Recovery CDs with a new motherboard), short of purchasing the retail version of Win XP Pro, because I fear that this problem could also occur with my newer laptop. Would appreciate if anyone could advise. Thank you AlanCB

They will give you a new key.
