Hi,

I have Dell Inspiron 6000 and after replacing CCFL backlight bulb the screen is black with vertical stripes. Please, see attached photo.

Can anybody help with this, please?

Hi Kennard and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

This looks like the edge connections to the screen itself have been disturbed, all you can do is check the cable connections are in correctly. If those to the very edge of the screen have cracked away it may need a new screen.

What was the reason for replacing the backlight tube, what were you seeing before?

Do you have another monitor you can connect to at least check the display software is OK? If it is and gives a decent picture on another monitor there is then some sort of hardware fault and may even need a new screen.

Hum, Looking at the spec, there is at least a Svideo output socket, that could be used to connect and send a video signal out to a TV with the right lead and possibly SCART adapter, doing that would at least prove the video hardware, software and drivers are OK.

If they are, then sorry but it points to a faulty monitor screen.

Hi, I had a look at the LCD panel spec and it looks as though the backlight is built into the actual panel.

Did you strip the panel down to install the backlight? i'd go along with Nev's first post in that it looks as thought the connections inside the LCD are faulty, a panel stripdown could well have caused that.

The other possibility is that the LCD wiring loom is faulty, but I'd go with the panel being faulty.

I was also wondering if it was the Inverter that you changed rather than the backlight, any chance you can confirm either way.

Hi Synapse, Yes the bulb is located at the bottom of screen and is part of the display. I had to disassemble display and install new one. Tried to be very carefull when taking the bulb out.

So to answer your question-no I didnt replace inverter, only ccfl backlight bulb.

When I turned laptop back on I could see part of the desktop screen with desktop icons but after I disconnected and reconnected monitor cable the picture was as on picture I attached.

Thanks for the info, the lines are due to the edge connections not being fully clamped together and/or not being aligned correctly. I'd say you disturbed them when you fitted the backlight.

Depending on exactly what is wrong you maybe able to fix it, but you'll have to take it to pieces again. I remember doing it with digital watch screens but not laptop panels. Unfortunately, if that does not work you may have to replace the panel :(

Tried to disassemble it one more time and put it back together very carefully but still no luck to fix it. I will try to connect it to other monitor. If it wont work I will have to sell it for parts.
