Computers keep leaving and re-joining session directory

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Just looking for some understanding here. I have (I believe) setup session

directory correctly to be hosted on a cluster and everything seems to be

working in terms of sessions reconnecting...

SO.. not much of an issue. However something I have noticed in the event

logs of the active node of the cluster hosting the session directory is that

the TS Servers that have been configured for Session Directory throughout the

whole day keep leaving and rejoining the Session Directory within a second or

so.. is this normal and could this cause problems in terms of users logging

in at that second the server leaves and then comes back in a second later?

it's weird as I would have thought once joined they'd remain joined but this

has gone on this since day 1 and happens throughout the whole day....

Could you post EventID, Source and Description of the events that

you see in the EventLog?

Re: Computers keep leaving and re-joining session directory

Hi Vera,

Yes.. sorry about the slack question... here are further details :

First I get this message

Event Type: Error

Event Source: TermService

Event Category: None

Event ID: 1020

Date: 21/06/2008

Time: 05:19:00

User: N/A

Computer: xxxxxxxxxxxx

Description:

TermService clustering failed to update the session directory,

hresult=0x80004005.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Then immediately on the same timestamp I get :

Event Type: Information

Event Source: TermServJet

Event Category: None

Event ID: 1005

Date: 21/06/2008

Time: 05:19:00

User: N/A

Computer: xxxxxxxxxxxx

Description:

The server sucessfully joined the Session Directory xxxxxxxxxxxx.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

And this goes on many times throughout the day

I have google'd about on this and I can confirm that these Servers are

Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition Servers and are part of a Windows 2003

Active Directory Domain

Another thing that may assist is that the Terminal Services Servers are

behind a firewall from the Cluster Hosting the session directory. The

firewall allows any connection iniatated from the Terminal Services Servers

through(and back) to anywhere in the estate, but nothing can initiate a

connection to the Terminal Services Servers aside from client subnets that

are only allowed through on RDP (TCP 3389). Should there be 2 way

communication between the Terminal Services Servers and the Cluster Hosting

the Session Directory?

Re: Computers keep leaving and re-joining session directory

And Also... everytime the the Terminal Services Server logs the events in my

previous post the following events relating to the same server are logged on

the active node of the Cluster hosting the Session Directory Server:

Event Type: Information

Event Source: TermServSessDir

Event Category: None

Event ID: 1018

Date: 21/06/2008

Time: 05:19:00

User: N/A

Computer: xxxxxxxxxxxx

Description:

Terminal Server xxxxxxxxxxxx.domain..com(x.x.x.x) successfully left the

Session Directory.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

and then:

Event Type: Information

Event Source: TermServSessDir

Event Category: None

Event ID: 1017

Date: 21/06/2008

Time: 05:19:01

User: N/A

Computer: xxxxxxxxxxxx

Description:

Terminal Server xxxxxxxxxxxx.domain.com(x.x.x.x) successfully joined the

Session Directory.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

At again the same timestamps... throughout the whole day...

Re: Computers keep leaving and re-joining session directory

I'm not sure, but I think that you have to allow traffic in both

directions between the session directory cluster and the Terminal

servers.
