KenB Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 If you right click on the icon > Properties What does it say in "Target" under the shortcut tab ? It should say something like: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" What is showing in "Start in" ? jamesand Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 hi kenB yes it says that in target,in teh shortcut it says none and in start in it says %homedrive%%homepath% thanks again. Quote
KenB Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The path is correct. If you click on My Computer > C:\ > Program Files > Internet Explorer Does iexplore show there? You should be able to click on this to launch IE. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted May 16, 2011 ExTS Admin Posted May 16, 2011 Have you tried using System Restore to the day before the problems occurred? It may help. Quote Member of:UNITE
jamesand Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 sorry havent got back to you,but it wont let me restore it wont realy let me do anything.i am sure it is because i deleted something to do with dell network things,i cant even retrieve anything as much as i have tried ,but i must thank you both for trying to help. Quote
KenB Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 i deleted something to do with dell network things If this was a file(s) it/they may be in the Recycle Bin. Take a look there - you can restore it from there if you find anything. I assume that you only have recovery disks and not a full installation disk ? I wonder if this is a file association problem. It's worth checking them. Download SREng Extract it to Desktop and double click SREngLdr.EXE to run it Select System Repair from the left pane. Click on File Association Select all entries that has an Error status click [Repair] Refer to this image for an example: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/SystemRepair_FileAssocs.gif Close SREng now. KenB Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Hi, Try the "Restore CMD File Associations" from Kelly's Korner. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Scroll down to the 325 ( right side ) This is for XP. Kelly is an MVP and I have used her fixes many times. EDIT I wonder if this is a file association problem. KenB Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Hi, it said 404 file not found I have just tried 3 different downloads from the site - I get the same error. There must be a server problem - it is worth trying later to see if it has been resolved. Plastic Nev Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Hi Jamesand, I wonder have you a desktop icon for Internet Explorer, but instead of the correct "Internet Explorer" written under it, is there in lower case just the wording "iexplorer" ?
