i have somehow while deleting stuff removed my internet explorer from my start menu,it is still on my pc but i cant access it without a lot of fuss.my pc keeps telling me it cant find the file along with other ways ive tried.my pc is a dell and operates with windows xp home ,i am afraid thats all i can tell you,i hope its enough and hope you can help thank you

thanks for replying but i mustnt have explained properly about my problem,i still have my shortcut icons but they dont take me to internet explorer.i think i may have removed something to do with dell programmes as i tried to go to dell network assissant an my pc told me it couldnt find it ,which it is saying about other things i am trying to access.i hope that can maybe give you a better idea as to what i have done wrong .once again many thanks.

If you right click on the icon > Properties

What does it say in "Target" under the shortcut tab ?

 

It should say something like:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

 

What is showing in "Start in" ?

hi kenB yes it says that in target,in teh shortcut it says none and in start in it says %homedrive%%homepath% thanks again.

The path is correct.

 

If you click on My Computer > C:\ > Program Files > Internet Explorer

Does iexplore show there?

You should be able to click on this to launch IE.

no when i click on my computer it doesnt show any program files just shared documents,my documents,hard disk drives local disc c ,dvd drive d, and a picture of a cd\dvd saying works7(e:).thats all.

If you read my post again it says " My Computer > C:\ ..............

 

You say that "local disc c" is showing.

C:\ is the same as "local disc c".

Click on this.

You should see Program Files there.

i have found that and it still wont let me access it,i have got onto internet explorer through some file but i am not sure how,and it isnt running properly anyway.it also wont let me access other things like control panel,or games etc i am sure i have deleted something i shouldnt have,it also wont let me download anything as i tried to recover whatever i have lost through other programs but couldnt.i think maybe something needs reinstating but i dont jnow what or how and i am limited to what it will let me do.

Have you tried using System Restore to the day before the problems occurred?

sorry havent got back to you,but it wont let me restore it wont realy let me do anything.i am sure it is because i deleted something to do with dell network things,i cant even retrieve anything as much as i have tried ,but i must thank you both for trying to help.

If this was a file(s) it/they may be in the Recycle Bin.

Take a look there - you can restore it from there if you find anything.

 

I assume that you only have recovery disks and not a full installation disk ?

no ive already tried that,if it means anything,when i try to access the control panel it comes up but when i choose an option it tells me that the app cant be found,it does this on a few things.also i tried to access solitaire from the start menu and it asks me which program i would like to open it with,but it lets me open docs and other things tho.

Download SREng

 

• Extract it to Desktop and double click SREngLdr.EXE to run it
  
• Select System Repair from the left pane.
  
• Click on File Association
  
• Select all entries that has an Error status click [Repair]
  
• Refer to this image for an example:

no mate it said 404 file not found may have been removed or name changed etc.

no mate i had a try but it it wouldnt let me and i dont no if i was doing it right.but when i tried to download from other sites to retrieve the files etc they wouldnt download either.

I have just tried 3 different downloads from the site - I get the same error.

There must be a server problem - it is worth trying later to see if it has been resolved.

Just tried the d/l again and the error is still there.

Must be a major site problem.
